The LS‑262 is used by widows of deceased longshoreman who are filing claims for death benefits under the LHWCA. The LHWCA provides for extensive, beneficial death benefits to be paid to the surviving spouse, as well as minor children, of any deceased longshoreman who dies due to a work-related injury or accident. Death benefits under the LHWCA are paid for the rest of the surviving spouse’s life or until he or she remarries.
